An acknowledged specialist in property litigation, Ian is a member of the Property Litigation Association and frequently lectures on the subject to other lawyers. Ian has a wide experience of dealing with various property related matters including rent reviews, arbitrations and other valuation disputes, tenant default, possession proceedings, dilapidation's, squatter actions, enforcement of covenants, emergency court actions, right of light/boundary walls/party wall disputes and commercial lease renewals. Prior to joining Booth & Co, Ian was employed by City of London firm, Church Adams Tatham & Co, where he again worked with many prominent property clients.

Ian's particular areas of expertise include :-

  • Employment

One of Ian’s successes - Recovery of vital computer client data for major Computer Group.

An employee, who had resigned after one week, had e-mailed the company’s entire customer database to his personal e-mail address which he could access through his own PC at home. The effect on the client’s business in such a competitive market would have been catastrophic if this information had fallen into a competitor’s hands. Two days before Ian Coupland, was to leave for his summer holiday, he received a call from the client to deal with the matter. Within 24 hours, Ian and his team travelled to London and obtained a search and seizure order from the only judge available in the UK on that day and returned to Leeds. At 6am the next day, they went to the employee’s home, with the police, computer hardware and internet specialists and an independent solicitor and recovered the sensitive material. And Ian still managed to make his flight to Crete with a few hours to spare.
